Devlog 4: Production Starts!
Hello and welcome to our fourth devlog!
Start of Production
This week production for our game finally started! We are currently in the first production sprint, there will be 3 of them(each one lasting a period of around 3 weeks) and the last one will be purely dedicated to polishing the features that were previously added without creating new ones.
Here is what we achieved during this first week of production.
Programming
Programmers started working on implementing and polishing the main mechanics from our prototypes placing them into one single Unreal project and following the established naming conventions. They made sure that fundamental and important things like the main player controls and functionalities such as pressing buttons to execute tasks are all in order and working correctly. Work was also done on the AI and all the basics needed for the behaviour of the NPCs(such as the base BehaviourThree and Blackboard) that will be visiting our fair were refined and added.
Art
From an art standpoint, we focused on making our game easier to understand for new players. A lot of drawings were made for the tutorial that you will see as the very first thing when starting the game, explaining the main goal and what the players can do. Here is a tiny sneak peek at some of them!
We also began creating the necessary textures for the UI and HUD, making things like an icon for the "pickup" action and some others that refer to the tasks the players will do during the game.
The first icon will represent button mashing and it also features an adorable animation, again added to make things even more readable for the players!
A pause menu was created as well, we will later overlay it on top of our game when the players press the pause button, taking care to blur the background a bit.
And lastly, we decided to assign to each of the players a different colored indicator with a rounded shape. It will be placed on the ground around their feet, to make them more recognisable on the screen.
Alongside all of this, work on the environment assets started as well, here is a small preview of the ferris wheel and ice cream stall that are in the process of being finalized.
